Olympic Canoe/Kayak Flatwater Overview
This event is also known as the Canoe Sprint and it takes place on a straight course on calm water which is divided into lanes. Both kayaks and canoes are used for this event although the canoe is reserved for the men only during the Olympics. This event has been a part of the Olympics for the men since Berlin 1936 and for women since London 1948.
