Olympic Hockey Overview
Hockey (or field hockey as it is more commonly known in North America) first appeared at the Olympics in London on 1908. It disappeared from the schedule until 1920 and has remained an event ever since. The first women's event was held at the Moscow 1980 Games. The sport is played outdoors and sees members of each team attempting to shoot a ball into the opposing goal with a stick with a small hook on one end.
