Olympic Rowing Overview
Rowing has been an Olympic event since the 1900 Games but women were only first allowed to compete at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Events for lightweight crews were introduced in 1996. There are 14 events for rowing: men's and women's quad sculls, double sculls, single sculls, eight, coxless pair; men's coxless four; lightweight men's coxless four and double sculls; and lightweight women's double sculls. Rowing is a popular event at any Olympics and should prove to be one of the most popular at the London Games.
