Olympic Triathlon Overview
Triathlon made its Olympic debut in 2000 in Sydney with 48 women and 52 men competing in separate events. In Beijing the numbers were evened out to 55 each of men and women. Competitors participate in three sports using standard distances with a 1.5 km swim, 40 km cycle, and a 10 km run. Australia leads the medal count of this young sport with four medals.
